George
Bernard Shaw
won the 1925 Nobel Prize for Literature, and the 1938 Academy Award
for
Best Screenplay for the film adaptation of Pygmalion.
Bob Dylan
won the 2000 Oscar for Best Song for "Things Have Changed" from Wonder Boys
and was a controversial recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016.
The
only other Nobel laureates to be nominated were
John
Steinbeck
(1962 Nobel Prize, 1944 Oscar nomination
for Original Story for Lifeboat,
1945 Oscar nomination for Original Story
for A Medal for Benny,
1952 Oscar nomination
for Best Story and Screenplay for Viva, Zapata!)
Jean-Paul
Sartre
(1964 Nobel Prize, 1956 Oscar nomination for
Motion Picture Story for The Proud and the Beautiful)
Harold
Pinter
(2005 Nobel Prize, 1981 Oscar nomination for
Best Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium
for The French Lieutenant's Woman,
1983 Oscar nomination for
Best Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium
for Betrayal.)
Some
visitors to madbeast.com have pointed out that Al Gore won both
awards, but
that is inaccurate. The Academy Award for Best Documentary for An
Inconvenient Truth was
awarded to its director Davis Guggenheim and not Gore, so the former
vice president
doesn't have an Oscar statuette to go along with his 2007 Nobel
Peace Prize.
